The wait is finally over! Oracle Linux 9 is now available to download.
This release is available for Intel/AMD and ARM systems, like Ampere, which is available on OCI and the Azure Cloud. When deploying on Azure and AWS, ensure your account for the system(s) deployed there when purchasing an Oracle Linux Subscription.
Oracle Linux 9 comes with many new features and improvements. It starts with the new Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (kernel-uek-5.15.0-0.23.1.el9uek) and the same Red Hat Compatible Kernel (kernel-5.14.0-1.7.1.el9) that ships with RHEL9.
The installers have also been updated; most notably, the root account is locked by default. SecureBoot is also simplified, with the RHCK kernel being signed with trusted SecureBoot certificates, eliminating the need to enroll a separate public key when UEFI Secure Boot is enabled.
Oracle Linux 9 is shipped with GNOME 40 desktop environment and has a new look and feel compared to Oracle Linux 8 for GUI users.
The file system options also deliver some enhancements, filesystem enhancements like exFAT support, and a ton of upgrades for Developers like PHP 8.0, MySQL 8.0, PostgreSQL 13, and updates to tools like Grafana, GCC, Rust, Go, and more. You can even run OL9 on your M1-based Mac system using Apple's UTM and the ARM build for Oracle Linux 9!
