Are you looking for a way to run your Linux operating system on Windows?
Until now, you had to install virtualization software like VirtualBox or similar tools to run Linux OS on Windows machines. This is no longer needed because you can run Oracle Linux on a Windows system like any other Windows app, which is available on the Microsoft App store. The latest releases of Oracle Linux 7 & 8 are available on Microsoft Store, i.e., Oracle Linux 7.9 & 8.5.
Oracle Linux is free to use and distribute. You can purchase support from Oracle if required.
There are a couple of prerequisites to run Oracle Linux on a Windows system.
1. Microsoft Windows 10 20H1 (build 19041) or higher release

2. Enable Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and reboot the system. You may need administrator privileges for perform this action.
3. Download and open the Oracle Linux 8.5 app. It will ask you to create new user and log in using the same user. You can log in as root user by executing “sudo su –“if needed.
By default, ol8_appstream & ol8_baseos_latest repositories are enabled. You can allow other repositories as needed.
This method allows quick and hassle-free deployment of Oracle Linux, which makes development and testing easier. The following screenshot shows a basic test for interacting files between Windows and Linux using WSL.
